The Octagon House sitting atop the hill at 440 Crites Road in Circleville is not in the best shape.
After 165 years, the largest house of its kind in the state is dilapidated and the paint is peeling. It’s been gutted and even lifted and moved to its current location to make way for the Walmart Supercenter.
But some Circleville residents are determined not to see the historic house crumble before them. Concerned citizens from the Roundtown Conservancy organized to save the structure. After successfully applying for a state grant in the fall of 2019, the group hired an architect and began work on the restoration of a staple of Circleville architecture and history.
