After more than four decades, The Other Place will close its Athens location in the next few weeks. 43 S. Court Street has sported recent red signs advertising their closing deals.
Store owner, Doug Baker, owns two other stores closer to his residence in Circleville, but the Athens store is the firthest from his home. Baker says closing the Athens store is his first step in a long-term retirement plan. Baker has had a business in Athens since 1972.
The closing sale is planned to finish by the end of February. According to Athens News, there is a potential tenant in the works with a lease being drawn up this week.
